by
Feb 19th, 2019

If you’re new to indoor gardening, it’s important to choose plants that will thrive and maintain a long life expectancy. You don’t want them to wither and yellow the second you turn your back! There are endless benefits to owning indoor plants (many of which are extremely low-maintenance) and they’re a simple way to bring beauty into your apartment. Not only can these plants freshen your space, but they also create an enhanced airflow and added element of brightness that may otherwise be missing. At the same time, recent studies have shown that houseplants can increase concentration and productivity, as well as boost your mood and reduce stress. All of these benefits are quite helpful, especially if you work from home and are stuck inside all day! Indoor plants serve a practical use while improving the appearance of any room, so be sure to head on over to your local nursery pronto! Read on for a list of some of the hardiest indoor plants.

Succulents

One of the most popular options for indoor plants, succulents are able to survive on limited water intake and can thrive in warm, dry climates. Most succulents do best with direct sunlight, so choose to place them on your windowsill or hang them close to nearby windows. Depending on which succulent you choose to buy, you may only need to water them once per week—or even less. To ensure you’re caring properly for them, read the directions that come with your plant or ask the staff from where you’re purchasing it from.

Aloe vera

One of the many types if indoor succulents, aloe vera is not only easy to care for but comes with added health benefits you can use to your advantage. Specifically speaking, aloe includes a gel-like substance inside of its thick leaves containing vitamins, minerals, amino acids and antioxidants. Most commonly known for its topical benefits, aloe can be used to treat burns and speed up the recovery process of these surface injuries.

Snake plants

For those of you who are easily forgetful, be sure to snag yourself a snake plant or two for your apartment. Snake plants don’t need much water or sunlight for survival and include stiff, upright leaves with silver or gold lining that make them aesthetically pleasing. These plants are also known to purify the air and give off oxygen at night, so be sure to add one into your bedroom for a good nights sleep!

Spider plants

All it takes is some soil, light, and watering once per week to keep spider plants alive and prospering. Considered one of the most adaptable houseplants to grow, this long, thin, arched foliage includes green leaves with a white lining and is a beautiful addition to any room. As the warmer weather comes around, spider plants produce small, white flowers on long stems that look like tiny spiders, hence the name. These plants prefer light, but if you don’t have any window room left, they will do just fine in lower light conditions.

Flaming katy

A common houseplant native to Madagascar, the flaming katy is a beautiful plant that will add bright pops of color and vibrancy to your apartment.  These plants survive best in temperatures ranging from 65-70 degrees Fahrenheit, making them the perfect addition to any room. These flowers can bloom in various colors such as red, yellow, lilac or orange, and will add a charming touch to your space.
