Wynwood is Miami’s ultimate arts district, a vibrant neighborhood filled with world-renowned galleries, stunning street art and a thriving creative community. And, if you’re looking for places to buy fine art near our apartments in Wynwood, then this really is the place to be!

Before we dive into specifics, though, here’s a little bit about Wynwood’s vibrant art background!

Why Wynwood is famous for its art

Wynwood is currently a world-renowned hub for street art, but its history is actually rooted in the textile industry and a series of cultural shifts.

In the 1920s, Jewish immigrants from New York established Wynwood as a bustling garment district, building large warehouses that fueled Miami’s fashion industry. By the 1940s, Puerto Rican families arrived, bringing a vibrant cultural presence that remains today. However, by the mid-20th century, outsourcing and the construction of Interstate 95 led to economic decline, leaving many businesses shuttered and the neighborhood in disrepair. The Miami riots of 1988 further damaged the area, but change was on the horizon.

In 1993, the Rubell Family Collection opened a gallery in a former warehouse, helping to position Wynwood as a contemporary art destination. Around the same time, Miami’s street art scene was evolving from underground graffiti into large-scale, creative murals. By the early 2000s, street art gained wider appreciation, and Wynwood’s vacant warehouse walls became prime canvases for artists! Finally, the first Art Basel Miami in 2007 cemented the city’s reputation as a street art hotspot.

In 2009, real estate developer Tony Goldman launched Wynwood Walls, a curated outdoor mural collection that attracted global talent and transformed the neighborhood into a pedestrian-friendly art district. More galleries and studios started popping up after that and the rest, as they say, is history!

Today, Wynwood is home to the largest collection of street art in the U.S., drawing over 6 million visitors annually. The neighborhood spans 50 blocks filled with more than 200 murals, alongside galleries, boutiques, restaurants and music venues that contribute to its vibrant, creative energy, and events like Art Basel, III Points Music Festival and Miami Music Week further highlight its status as a cultural hotspot.

What was once an industrial area in decline has become one of the most visually striking and dynamic neighborhoods in the country. So, whether you're an experienced collector or just starting to explore fine art, Wynwood offers a diverse selection of galleries and studios where you can discover exceptional pieces. Here’s where to start your search for fine art in this iconic Miami neighborhood!
