A booming economy and thriving multicultural population have increased the demand for delicious food of various ethnic origins over the past several years, and supply has adjusted itself accordingly. Himalaya Restaurant
In addition to being home to the world’s highest mountain peaks, the Himalayan subcontinent is the birthplace of some of the world’s most beloved food. Kata Robata Sushi is not the cheapest place to grab a meal in Houston’s Upper Kirby district, but chances are high that the mouthwatering traditional Japanese or fusion food you order there will make you feel that you have encountered a bargain even after you pay your check. Kata Robata is open for both lunch and dinner, seven days a week.
Crawfish and Noodles
Another excellent destination for the foodie in search of tasty seafood or fusion fare, Crawfish and Noodles is the sort of place that one becomes a regular at after just one meal. Creole-inspired (crawfish), but with Vietnamese influence (noodles), Crawfish and Noodles can please the myriad of palettes that often exist among a single dining party. It is also the sort of place that one can visit several nights in a row, alternating between crab or lobster and Vietnamese noodle soup.
Hugo’s
If you like Tex-Mex, you would be doing your taste buds a disservice to know that Hugo’s Restaurant exists and not visit it. Appetizers, entrees, desserts, and drinks are equally delicious. The restaurant’s pleasant ambiance, often further enhanced by live mariachi music, just makes the dining experience all the more enjoyable. Tamales, ceviche, chiles rellenos, and enchiladas are all on offer, but dessert lovers should try to leave some room for this Houston restaurant’s iconic tres leches cake or a dulce de leche brownie.
Oxheart
As New American cuisine has emerged as a culinary class of which Americans can actually be proud, this list would be incomplete without the inclusion of a restaurant that falls into this category. Oxheart not only fits the bill as a supplier of fine New American cuisine. It sets standards so high that a luxury apartment resident who lives in close proximity to it may have difficulty forgoing another dinner here in favor of trying a different Houston restaurant of the New American variety. Critics rave about the restaurant’s outstanding service, its ever-changing menu, and the opportunity patrons have to sample several different dishes in one sitting. Oxheart may be considered trendy, but it’s trendy for a reason. And it’s trendiness is likely to become a long-term thing.
