How to Freshen Up Your Apartment Decor on a Budget

by
Jun 2nd, 2014

Every apartment needs a little makeover from time to time. If you haven’t made any changes to your home decor this year, then it’s  time to give it a fresh look.

Improving an apartment home’s atmosphere doesn’t  require any structural changes or expensive purchases. It does, however, require a creative mind and a little bit of effort.

To remake your living space without breaking the bank or carrying out any major renovations, give the following projects a shot.

Declutter

Remove clutter from your home. It can be tedious, but it’s a worthwhile effort that can make your apartment home glimmer like new without forcing you to purchase decor or hire a designer. Decluttering also has positive psychological effects that clear your mind.

Draw Your Shades

Give your apartment a fresh feel and brighten up your living space. One way to do this is to literally let more light in your apartment by drawing back heavy window shades. To retain an atmosphere of privacy and keep the sun from heating up your apartment on hot summer days, adorn your windows with sheer curtains that can serve as a substitute for or complement to your shades.

Use What You Have

If you have changed up your apartment’s decor in the past and still have furnishings you like in storage, consider reintroducing some of them to give your living space a fresh look. Adorn walls, tables, and display space with decor elements that haven’t seen the light of day in awhile to  enhance your living environment. Another approach you can take: Use what you already have and rearrange living room and bedroom furniture.

Add Colorful Decor

Introduce shades and hues previously absent from a room’s color scheme to give your apartment home a fresh feel. No, we don’t mean painting. You probably have to get permission to do that. A vase of fresh flowers, a new work of art, and vibrantly colored wall hangings can all do the trick.

Swap Out Your Welcome Mat

A visitor’s first impression of a home is generally well-formed by the time he or she has passed through the front entryway. Lay a new doormat before your front door and tidy up your apartment’s entryway. These two simple things can go a long way to make your home a more welcoming place.

You don’t have to spend a lot of time or money to freshen up your space. All it takes is a little bit of effort to keep things tidy, the seasonal rotation of a few design accessories, and occasional changes in color scheme.
