According to research company Niche, nine of the country’s 25 healthiest cities are in Southern California. With this in mind, it’s no surprise that Orange and Los Angeles counties are home to so many industry-leading yoga studios. If you’re looking for a tranquil refuge near your Southern California apartment, consult this list of SoCal’s best yoga studios.

Black Dog Yoga

Many SoCal yogis consider Black Dog the best yoga studio in the San Fernando Valley. The inspiringly decorated Sherman Oaks studio offers an impressive range of yoga styles for practitioners of all levels. More than 80 classes are offered weekly, with Black Dog’s doors opening as early as 4am. In good traffic, Black Dog is a 15-minute drive from AMLI Lex on Orange. Most walk-ins cost 8, but a discount is available to those who sign up online.

Camarillo Yoga Center (CYC)

The Ventura County Reporter’s readers recognized CYC as Ventura County’s best yoga studio in 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015. The Camarillo space offers yoga for practitioners of all skill levels and mindfulness meditation classes. CYC is a 10-minute drive from AMLI Spanish Hills. If you live in AMLI’s Camarillo apartments or elsewhere in Ventura County, your first class at CYC is free.

The Green Yogi

This eco-chic yoga operation started in Berkeley and opened a Manhattan Beach studio a few years back. The Green Yogi’s loyal practitioners rave about its high-energy yoga classes and laudable sustainability initiatives. A single class costs 2, but The Green Yogi offers several packages that reduce the per-class cost. The Green Yogi is a 20-minute drive from AMLI’s Marina Del Rey apartments.

Ma Yoga

If you’re an expecting mother or expect to be expecting soon, Ma Yoga is for you. The SoCal yoga collective operates 10 studios in Orange County and the Los Angeles area. Ma Yoga’s Tustin location is a 10-minute drive from AMLI Uptown Orange. Ma’s Marina Del Rey studio is a pleasant 20-minute walk from AMLI’s Marina Del Rey apartment rentals.

Modo Yoga LA

Thus far one of the most successful competitors to Bikram yoga, Modo Yoga is growing in popularity around the country. And Modo’s three L.A. studios are as clean, green, and as well-run as they come. Modo Yoga classes are hot, but not Bikram hot. And unlike with Bikram, Modo Yoga instructors have the authority and flexibility to tailor their sequences. Drop-ins cost 0, but passes and monthly payment options make individual classes cheaper. Modo Yoga LA also offers an intro special: 30 days for 0 dollars. Modo Yoga’s West and East Side locations are five and ten minutes’ drive from AMLI Marina Del Rey and AMLI Lex on Orange, respectively.

Studio Surya Yoga Venice

A sense of community reigns strong at this intimate Venice yoga studio. Dedicated instructors lead a range of vinyasa and restorative flow classes. Drop-ins cost 8, but passes and new student specials are available. Studio Surya also offers retreats, donation-based workshops, 200-hour teacher trainings, and pre-natal teacher trainings. Studio Surya Yoga Venice is a five-minute drive or 20-minute walk from AMLI’s Marina Del Rey apartments.

WARRIOR&CO.

Hone your warrior asanas at WARRIOR&CO., a well-kept Woodland Hills studio with heated and non-heated rooms. WARRIOR offers traditional yoga classes, HIIT yoga, yoga for athletes, family yoga, and heated pilates classes. Drop-ins cost 0, but the studio sells class packages and memberships. WARRIOR&CO. also offers a free intro week for new students. The studio is one mile from AMLI Warner Center.

Yoga Nest Venice

Most yoga studios have props for students to borrow, but free water, mat, and towel rental? Yoga Nest Venice provides all four for free, and not just on your first visit. This eco-conscious, beachside yoga studio is all about community. And the community the studio and its teachers have fostered is all about Yoga Nest. The schedule features hatha, vinyasa, and yin classes for students of all skill levels, as well as free guided meditations. Single classes cost 8, a 20-class pack 35, and annual membership 99. Yoga Nest’s new student offer is two weeks unlimited yoga for 9. The studio is a 10-minute walk from AMLI Marina Del Rey and just two minutes from the beach. If you feel inspired, you can cool off with a swim in the ocean after class.
